The Origin of Monsooned Malabar

Monsooned Malabar: A Coffee with a Unique Story and Bold Flavor

At Acorns Coffee, we’re passionate about bringing you not just exceptional coffee, but also the stories behind every bean.

One of our newest additions has quickly become a standout offering -  Monsooned Malabar, a coffee that carries a rich history and a flavour profile unlike anything else. If you’ve ever been curious about what makes this coffee so unique, here’s the fascinating journey from farm to cup. It’s one of the stories our barista’s love to tell our guests!

Monsooned Malabar comes from the Malabar Coast of India, a region known for its lush landscapes and warm, humid climate. But what sets this coffee apart is the way it’s processed. After harvesting, the beans are laid out in large, open-sided warehouses, purposefully exposing them to the region’s famous monsoon winds and rains.

This natural process, called “monsooning,” transforms the beans.

They swell with moisture, turn a pale golden colour, and develop a completely unique flavour. This method dates back centuries, originating from the days when coffee was shipped from India to Europe in wooden boats.

During these long sea voyages, the beans were exposed to the humid, salty air, which gave them their distinctive taste. Today, this tradition is carefully recreated to bring us the same bold, earthy flavours.

Rich, Smooth, and Low Acidity. It’s one of our founders, Dayne’s, very favourites.

The monsooning process doesn’t just change the look of the beans—it also gives Monsooned Malabar its signature flavor.

A velvety, full body that makes every sip smooth and satisfying.

Flavor notes of spice, cocoa, and earthiness, with a gentle sweetness that lingers on the palate.

Exceptionally low acidity, making it a great choice for those who prefer a milder, smoother cup.

Whether you enjoy it black to fully experience its depth or with milk for a creamy, mellow finish, Monsooned Malabar is a coffee that stands out.

At Acorns, we believe that coffee is more than just a drink—it’s an experience. Every bag of Monsooned Malabar we roast in our shop in Bordon, Hampshire, reflects our dedication to quality and freshness. We take pride in sourcing coffees that tell a story, and this bean is no exception. Its unique processing method, rich history, and bold flavors make it a perfect addition to our lineup.
