Why Buy

Papua New Guinea Kenta is a complex and slightly wild coffee with tropical fruit notes, subtle sweetness, and an earthy undertone. It’s expressive and unique, offering something a little different from more traditional origins.

Is This For You?

You’ll love this if you enjoy unusual, fruit-forward coffees with a touch of earthiness and complexity. You might prefer something else if you prefer smooth, chocolate-heavy or low-acidity coffees.

Papua New Guinea Kenta

Papua New Guinea Kenta is a coffee shaped by one of the most remote and untouched coffee-growing regions in the world.

Grown in the highlands of Papua New Guinea, this coffee comes from smallholder farmers working in rugged, mountainous terrain, often in areas where farming methods have changed very little over generations. Coffee is grown in small garden plots alongside local crops, surrounded by dense jungle and rich biodiversity.

The Kenta variety itself has an interesting heritage — originally developed from Jamaican Blue Mountain stock, it has adapted to the unique conditions of Papua New Guinea to produce a cup that is both complex and beautifully balanced.

Harvesting is done by hand, with ripe cherries carefully selected before being washed and dried using traditional methods. This attention to detail, combined with the region’s altitude and climate, creates a coffee with clarity, structure, and depth.

In the cup, Papua New Guinea Kenta offers a distinctive profile: expect notes of cocoa, soft fruit, and a gentle citrus brightness, all wrapped in a smooth body with a clean, slightly spiced finish.

There’s a sense of adventure to this coffee — not just in its flavour, but in its origin. It reflects a place where coffee is still deeply connected to the land and the people who grow it, shaped by tradition, environment, and a slower pace of life.

At Acorns Coffee, this is one of our more intriguing coffees — balanced yet expressive, familiar yet with a twist. It’s perfect for those looking to explore something a little different while still enjoying a smooth, approachable cup.

From Farm to Cup

Grown in the Eastern Highlands of Papua New Guinea, this coffee is cultivated in traditional coffee gardens by small farming communities using generations of local knowledge and sustainable growing methods.

The combination of high altitude, fertile volcanic soil, and cool mountain conditions allows the cherries to mature slowly, helping develop sweetness, balance, and clarity in the cup.
