Acorns Coffee Celebrates Great Taste Awards Success – A Moment to Savour

We’re thrilled to share some exciting news from the Acorns Coffee roastery—we’ve just received two Great Taste Awards for our Brazil Santos and Monsooned Malabar coffees! This recognition means the world to us, not just because it reflects the hard work we pour into every roast, but because the Great Taste Awards are among the most respected accolades in the world of fine food and drink.

What Are the Great Taste Awards?

Run by the Guild of Fine Food, the Great Taste Awards have been celebrating culinary excellence since 1994. Often referred to as the “Oscars” of the food world, they are the largest and most trusted awards scheme for food and drink producers.

But this isn’t just a popularity contest. Each product entered is blind-tasted by a panel of over 500 industry experts—including chefs, buyers, food writers, and retailers—over 80 judging days. They evaluate each item on taste alone—no branding, no packaging, no story. Just pure flavour, balance, texture, and quality.

To win a star is no small feat. Out of over 14,000 entries in 2024, fewer than 40% were awarded even one star. So when we say we’re proud, we mean it.

Our Award-Winning Coffees

This year, we were delighted to see not one, but two of our coffees recognised by the judges.

⭐ Brazil Santos – 1-Star Great Taste Award

Our Brazil Santos is a smooth, mellow single origin coffee with gentle chocolate and nut notes, a soft acidity, and a clean finish. It’s a customer favourite for good reason—easy drinking, versatile, and deeply satisfying.

The judges praised its balance and drinkability, describing it as “a well-rounded coffee with a mellow profile, gentle roast character, and a pleasing, nutty undertone.” We roast this coffee in small batches to highlight its natural sweetness, making it perfect for everything from morning brews to flat whites.

⭐ Monsooned Malabar – 2-Star Great Taste Award

Bold, earthy, and truly unique, Monsooned Malabar is a coffee with a story. The beans are exposed to monsoon winds and rains in open warehouses along India’s Malabar Coast, which gives them their distinctive flavour and low acidity.

The judges were intrigued by its unusual profile, commenting on the “depth and intrigue in the cup, with smoky and spicy notes and a surprisingly smooth mouthfeel.” This coffee is a conversation starter—perfect for espresso lovers looking for something rich and different.

Why This Matters

At Acorns Coffee, we roast every batch by hand at our Hampshire roastery, always with care, precision, and respect for the origin. These awards are a reflection of that ethos—and of you, our incredible customers who support our journey.

We started in a horsebox in the snow, driven by a love of great coffee and a belief in doing things properly. Now, years later, to be featured in the Great Taste Awards directory among the finest food and drink producers in the country is humbling, and deeply motivating.
