Gold! Acorns Coffee’s Colombia Finca Sofia Wins at the Great British Food Awards 2026

Oct 12, 2026

We’re absolutely over the moon to share that our Colombia Finca Sofia has won Gold at the Great British Food Awards 2026! 🌟

Our much-loved house bean, one of our best-selling coffees and a firm favourite with our customers, has received national recognition for the coffee we’ve been proud to roast and serve at Acorns Coffee. For a small, independent coffee roastery in Bordon, Hampshire, this is a seriously special moment.

Finca Sofia has always held a special place at Acorns. It’s the coffee we come back to, recommend to customers and get through in buckets at the shop. Quite literally!

Now, alongside its existing 2-Star Great Taste Award, Finca Sofia has another brilliant achievement to its name. And we couldn’t wait to tell you about it.

What makes Colombia Finca Sofia an award-winning coffee?

Awards are lovely, of course. But the real question is always the same: what does it actually taste like?

Finca Sofia is all about balance, sweetness and that wonderfully smooth character that makes you want another cup before you’ve finished the first.

Expect a silky, rounded coffee with flavours of:

  • Milk chocolate – rich, familiar and comforting.
  • Toffee and banoffee – a lovely sweetness that gives the coffee its indulgent character.
  • Soft, nutty notes – adding depth without overpowering the cup.
  • Creamy fruitiness – a gentle lift that keeps the flavour interesting.

Pull it as an espresso and you’ll find a rich marzipan aroma, a beautifully creamy crema and a smooth, lingering sweetness. Add milk and those chocolate and toffee notes really come into their own, creating a rounded, almost dessert-like coffee without needing to add anything extra.

It’s indulgent without being heavy, sweet without being sugary, and full of character without becoming overpowering.

That’s what makes Finca Sofia such a brilliant everyday coffee. It has enough complexity to keep experienced coffee drinkers interested, while remaining approachable for anyone who simply wants a really good cup.

A Colombian coffee that works beautifully with or without milk

Colombian coffee has earned its reputation for good reason. The country’s varied mountain landscapes and growing conditions help produce coffees with an appealing balance of sweetness, body and flavour.

Our Finca Sofia is a 100% Arabica coffee associated with Colombia’s western Andean foothills, including the regions of Antioquia, Risaralda and Valle. Grown at around 1,500 metres above sea level, it uses the Castillo variety.

The result is a coffee with the smoothness people often look for in Colombian coffee, alongside a little extra depth and personality.

And versatility is a big part of its appeal.

As an espresso: rich, chocolatey and rounded, with a sweet aroma and creamy finish.

As a flat white or latte: the milk brings out the toffee, chocolate and banoffee-like sweetness, making it a brilliant choice for milk-based coffee drinks.

As a cafetière or filter coffee: a balanced, easy-drinking cup with enough flavour to be interesting from the first sip to the last.

If you’re searching for the best Colombian coffee beans for your home espresso machine, or a smooth speciality coffee that works just as well in a cafetière, Finca Sofia is a great place to start.

From two Great Taste stars to Great British Food Awards Gold

We’ve always believed that good coffee should speak for itself, but it’s pretty special when independent recognition backs up what you and your customers have been telling us.

Finca Sofia already holds two stars at the Great Taste Awards, recognising its quality and flavour. Winning Gold at the Great British Food Awards 2026 takes that story another step forward.

The Great British Food Awards celebrate outstanding food and drink producers, with entries assessed by expert judging panels. Gold is awarded to products that stand out for their quality and meet the high standards of their category.

For us, the award means more than another badge to put on a bag. It’s recognition of the care that goes into choosing, roasting and sharing coffee that people genuinely enjoy drinking.

We’re proud to have our coffee recognised alongside so many talented producers. And we’re especially proud that a coffee roasted right here in Hampshire has earned a place among the award-winning food and drink products of 2026.

Small-batch coffee, roasted in Bordon, Hampshire

We’re Acorns Coffee, an independent coffee roastery based at The Shed in Bordon, Hampshire. We started in February 2021, and our approach has stayed refreshingly simple: source coffees we love, roast them with care, and make genuinely good coffee accessible to more people.

We’re not a giant industrial roaster. We roast in small batches, paying attention to how each coffee develops and how it tastes in the cup.

Finca Sofia is a brilliant example of why that matters.

Roasting is about finding the right balance. Too little development and a coffee can taste sharp or underdeveloped; too much and the delicate sweetness and character can become overwhelmed. With Finca Sofia, we want to preserve its smooth chocolate character, bring out its natural sweetness and maintain the rounded finish that makes it such a customer favourite.

We also offer a choice of roast levels, so you can choose the style that suits your taste and brewing method. Prefer a lighter, brighter cup? Or do you enjoy a deeper, more developed roast for your espresso? We want you to have coffee the way you like it.

Every bag is roasted at our Bordon roastery and packed with care before making its way to your door. We recommend allowing freshly roasted coffee around three weeks from its roast date to rest before serving, giving it time to settle and produce a more balanced cup.

It’s a little detail that makes a difference, and exactly the sort of thing we love sharing with fellow coffee enthusiasts.

Why we love Finca Sofia (and why our customers keep coming back)

Some coffees are exciting because they’re unusual. Others become favourites because they’re dependable, delicious and fit effortlessly into everyday life.

Finca Sofia manages to do both.

It’s our house bean for a reason. The chocolate and toffee flavours are familiar and comforting, while the creamy texture, marzipan aroma and banoffee-like sweetness give it something extra. It’s a coffee you can enjoy first thing in the morning, pull out for an afternoon espresso or serve to friends who appreciate a really good flat white.

And because it’s so versatile, it makes a brilliant starting point if you’re exploring speciality coffee for the first time.

You don’t need complicated equipment or a cupboard full of accessories to appreciate a great coffee. Start with fresh beans, a grind suited to your brewing method and a little curiosity. The rest is about finding the flavours you enjoy.

If you already drink Finca Sofia, thank you. If you’re discovering it for the first time because of this award, welcome!
